THE BLUEFACED LEICESTER USED AS A CROSSING SIRE

It's a meat sheep!
(that happens to have fabulous wool)

LeeAnne Richert's flock

The Bluefaced Leicester has been used as a crossing sire in the UK for many years. It is regularly crossed with many of the native British breeds, particularly the Horned or Hill breeds such as the Swaledale, Blackfaced or Welsh Mountain to produce the famous 'mule ewe'. The Mule (any cross-bred sired by a Bluefaced Leicester) now makes up almost 50% of the cross-bred ewe population in the UK. Here are some of the cross-bred sheep BLU members are producing now.
